GIVING THANKS TO GOD (14 - 17) - Communion
GIVING THANKS TO GOD (14) - Communion (i)
From Psalm 48
O Lord God, you are great and most worthy of praise; worship in your house is our greatest joy. You are our God and will for ever be our guide; you have done great things from the beginning. As we have heard, so have we seen: your name like your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your hand is full of good things. Now in your presence we recall your unfailing love; through Jesus our Lord. Amen.
GIVING THANKS TO GOD (15) - Communion (ii)
From Psalm 111
God our Father, we the family of your people, praise you with all our heart: for great are your works and wonderful the things you do; glorious and majestic are your deeds, and your righteousness is everlasting.
Here we remember what you have done for us - your grace and your compassion; you have given, to us who worship you, this food to eat, and your covenant is for ever - redemption for your people; holy and awesome is your name. Amen.
GIVING THANKS TO GOD (16) - Communion (iii)
From Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22 and 1 Corinthians 11
Heavenly Father, we thank you that when the time came, and on the night that he was betrayed, Jesus ate the Passover meal with his disciples; and while he was eating, he took bread, gave thanks to you and broke it. Then he gave it to them saying, 'This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.'
In the same way, after supper he took the cup, gave thanks to you, and gave it to them all saying, 'This cup is God's new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins: do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.' Amen.
GIVING THANKS TO GOD (17) - After Communion
From Psalm 36
Lord, your love reaches us from heaven
and your faithfulness fills the earth,
at your table we have feasted on your goodness
and drunk from the rivers of your blessing;
you are the source of our life
and the light of our way:
we praise you, Lord. Amen.
