He is self-taught as a composer apart from a few lessons with Thea Musgrave (c. 1964) and some friendly advice from Alan Ridout. He has been a singer at St Martin's, Dorking, Hampstead Parish Church, Rochester Cathedral (Deputy / supernumerary) etc.
Since retirement as an architect he has concentrated more on composition, with works performed by Ely Cathedral Choir and the St Peter's Singers, and competition wins for the RSCM (Norwich and Norfolk area), The Chantry Quire (Chichester) and the Archdeaconry of Cambridge.
