1. A word is spoken by the One,
'Let there be light' and worlds are born:
all creation comes to life at his command.
By his hand we're still sustained,
the seedtime, harvest shall remain;
our Creator's promises shall never fail.
You're the mighty world-creating God, (your glory cannot fade),
you're the promise-keeping God.

So say the word that brought the universe to light.
Say the word that put the powers of hell to flight.
Say the word to make me whole,
that both wounds and heals my soul,
say the word. . .

2. But this creation fades away,
we wither, perish, fall, decay,
only his word remains for ever.
Planted in the humble heart,
a new creation makes the start,
gloriously growing to eternity.
You're the gracious, recreating God, (whose people will not fade),
you're the promise-keeping God.

So say the word . . .

Let your Spirit cut deep into my soul,
turn a rebel heart into your home.
A new creation, a holy nation to your praise! Say the word . . .
