1 God is our shield and God our rock,
Present to help when troubles loom;
We will not fear the seismic shock,
Though mountains hurtle to their doom.
Let oceans roar, let hills subside,
The depths of earth unleash their power:
The LORD of hosts is by our side,
The God of Jacob, our strong tower.
2 God's city finds within her walls
Water abundant from her stream:
God dwells within, she never falls,
His help will come with dawn's first beam.
The nations rage, the kingdoms slide;
He speaks, whose words the world devour:
The LORD of hosts is by our side,
The God of Jacob, our strong tower.
3 See what the LORD has wrought below:
Great desolations on the world!
He stamps out war: he breaks the bow,
And chariots in the fire are hurled.
'Know I am God: in peace abide!
Mine is the glory, mine the power!'
The LORD of hosts is by our side,
The God of Jacob, our strong tower.
