I waited patiently for the Lord
1 I waited patiently for the Lord,
he turned and listened to me;
he drew me out of the echoing pit
and out of the miry clay.
He set my feet upon a rock,
my footsteps he made secure;
within my mouth he put a new song-
a song of praise to God.
2 In many seeing it, fear will come-
they then will trust in the Lord;
and he is happy who hopes in the Lord,
who will not be led astray.
Your wondrous deeds and thoughts to us
are multiplied, O my God;
they number more than we can proclaim-
Lord, none compares with you
3 It is not offerings you require,
but open ears to your word;
and so instead of a sacrifice
I come to you with my life.
I love to do your will, O God,
within my heart is your law;
deliverance is the news I have told-
my lips have not been sealed.
4 I have not hidden within my heart
your steadfast love and your help;
the congregation have heard me declare
salvation and faithfulness.
And so when evils circle me
have mercy on me, 0 Lord;
may all who love you thankfully say,
The Lord is great indeed!
