Lord Christ, the everlasting Son
Lord Christ, the everlasting Son,
the Father's own beloved One:
you reckoned it no robbery
to hold divine equality;
you made yourself of no repute
and - emptied, gracious, resolute -
you took our flesh at Bethlehem
as Mary's child, of Jesse's stem.
God's servant, God's anointed Christ,
a living, dying sacrifice:
the kind of death the lawless died,
a life which soldiers crucified.
But at the tomb on Easter day
your troubled friends heard angels say:
"He is not here! Go search and see,
he goes ahead to Galilee."
Lord Christ, the everlasting Son,
God's risen and uplifted One:
above all heights in honour raised,
above all names, your Name be praised!
Amen!
