1 Lord of the Twelve, you drew
disciples near to you
and taught them how to pray.
Our hearts within us burn
as followers to learn
the path of prayer today.

2 Prayer's dedicated task -
to seek, to knock, to ask -
is year by year the same;
the Spirit from on high
will help God's children cry
the Father's holy Name.

3 Lord, to our spirits bring
the grace of listening,
the gift to hear and heed.
Waken our eyes to see
heaven's boundless charity
and earth's unceasing need.

4 From worship send us out,
alert, resolved, devout,
to do the Father's will.
Mercy. not sacrifice
brings closer Paradise,
redeeming human ill.
