1 O bless the God of Israel,
sing his praises with thanksgiving;
he came to help his people,
he has set them free and saved them

2 He raised a mighty Saviour
from the royal house of David;
fulfilling all he promised
through the lips of holy prophets.

3 He said that he would save us
from the hands of all who hate us;
to show his loving mercy,
and fulfil his solemn promise.

4 And through this great deliverance,
free from fear, we now can serve him
in holy, righteous living,
in his presence, all our lifetime.

5 And you shall be God's prophet,
to prepare the Lord's way for him,
and lead his pardoned people
to a knowledge of salvation.

6 In tender love and mercy
he has visited his people,
to lighten death's dark shadow,
and in paths of peace to lead them.
