1 O LORD, at early morning hear
My voice ascend on high;
To you will I address my prayer,
To you lift up my eye.
2 You are a God before whose sight
The wicked may not stand;
Their pride and falsehood, rage and spite
Shall cease at your command.
3 But by your mercy I may now
Within your house appear;
Towards your temple I will bow
And worship you with fear.
4 Lead me, O LORD, direct my feet
In ways of righteousness;
Make every path of duty straight
And plain before my face.
5 For lying lips and murderous hearts
Great wickedness have planned;
Let them receive their just deserts,
O God, by their own hand.
6 Let all who trust you, LORD, delight
To see their hopes fulfilled,
For you surround them day and night
With favour as a shield.
