1 O praise the LORD! My soul, proclaim
The glories of your Maker's name!
In human powers put not your trust,
For even kings return to dust.

2 But happy all whose hopes rely
On God who made the earth and sky,
The God of Jacob, God the LORD,
For evermore to be adored!

3 His faithfulness is always sure:
He saves the oppressed, he feeds the poor,
He sends the labouring conscience peace
And grants the prisoner sweet release.

4 The LORD has eyes to give the blind;
The LORD supports the sinking mind;
He helps the stranger in distress,
And widows and the fatherless.

5 He keeps the righteous in his care,
But brings the wicked to despair;
O praise the LORD, his name adore!
Our God shall reign for evermore!
