1 Overflow with joy and gladness,
sing, my soul, for freedom gained;
God has wiped away our sadness
and the prisoners are unchained.
Gone the anguish, gone the sorrow,
gone the manacles of fear;
faith has triumphed, and tomorrow
shines with sunlight, bright and clear.

2 Those whose hope is in their Saviour,
those who trust in Christ their Lord,
now proclaim by their behaviour
inward peace and true accord.
Like believers of past ages,
who for Jesus Christ were bold,
from such martyrs, saints and sages
no good thing does God withhold.

3 So, in gratitude, before you,
God our Father, sun and shield,
full of praises, we adore you,
as the powers of darkness yield.
For this mighty liberation,
after grief and torment long,
we rejoice in your salvation:
hear, O God, our triumph song!
