1 So dies this man, this carpenter;
His cause, his kingdom scorned.
A dismal figure on a cross,
Deserted, scarcely mourned.

2 So dies this man; brother to all
The poor and the oppressed.
'Come unto me', he said to them,
'And I will give you rest'.

3 So dies this man 'Father, forgive',
His last and loving word.
Each one who hastened him to death
Is brought in prayer to God.

4 So lives this man, this carpenter;
No less a one than he
Could rise to mend this broken world
And claim our loyalty.
