The life within the standing corn
1 The life within the standing corn,
cut down and crushed, for us is made
the symbol of a hope reborn.
New seed is sown: a debt is paid.
2 The life within the swelling grape,
cut down and crushed, becomes the wine:
shed blood wherein is all our hope.
New buds will grow upon the vine.
3 We drink this wine and eat this bread,
sustaining soul and body still,
as we recall the blood once shed
at Calvary, upon that hill.
4 The body racked with agony,
cut down and crushed with blood and pain:
but death shall not have mastery,
for what was crushed now lives again.
