1 This is Saint Mark who followed Christ,
who penned his Master's words and deeds;
young eager man in faith and fault
serving the Lord his Saviour's needs.

2 How like us all, this lion with wings!
He too could falter on the way;
and was it he who flew from fear
at Judas' kiss, at dying day?

3 Yet faith prevailed and courage grew,
strong in the end as at the start,
teaching the world through life and pen
how Christ can use a fainting heart.

4 Here, now, we read his written word
God speaking through a human hand.
Lord, shine through our frail words and deeds
that others see and understand.
