1 To God the LORD I cry aloud,
from him I seek relief;
with anguished heart, before him bowed,
I pour out all my grief.

2 Although I feel my spirit faint
and fear my mind shall break,
my God who cares for every saint
knows well the path I take.

3 Along the way that lies ahead
they set a snare for me;
I look for help, but help has fled
and no escape I see.

4 O LORD, for you alone I long;
now save me, hear my prayer!
My enemies, so fierce, so strong,
have brought me to despair.

5 From my dark prison set me free,
that I may praise your name;
the righteous then shall join with me
your goodness to proclaim.
