1 What joy to hear the pilgrims say,
'Will you come up with us,
to keep the LORD's appointed feast
and worship at his house?'
2 Within the city gates we stand,
amazed as now we see
Jerusalem's complete design,
her perfect unity.
3 There to give praise and thanks to God
the ransomed tribes resort;
there David's son in judgment sits
and holds his royal court.
4 May peace abide within her walls,
prosperity abound,
with every good and perfect gift
her people all be crowned!
5 So for Jerusalem I'll pray
while life and breath remain,
since there my friends and kindred dwell
and God shall ever reign.
