1 When glory shone through the dark skies
and midnight was brighter than dawn,
then Bethlehem saw its true Morning arise;
this is the day he was born.
The shepherds believed when they heard
the news of a child in the night;
the city of David was home to its Lord
and the powers of evil took flight.

2 But daylight was turned into gloom,
and brightness had gone from the sky,
when Christ was uplifted to torture and doom:
this is the day he must die.
The fishermen who were his friends
denied him and quarrelled and fled;
but soon they will stare at the marks on his hands
he is risen, alive from the dead!

3 Come shepherds, come fishermen all,
from fields and from shores of the sea,
come northerners, southerners, come at his call;
this is the day to be free!
For Christ has come fishing for you;
there's none that he will not receive;
Since he is our Shepherd and Fisherman too,
let today be the day you believe!
