1 Who would have dreamed it?
Mary the Virgin,
chosen to bear God's only Son.
Jesus the Saviour,
Christ the Redeemer,
freedom for all the world has won.

2 Who would have watched it?
the Lord's arrival
in Bethlehem, long years ago.
Shepherds with reverence,
wise men with presents,
angels with anthems' joyous flow.

3 Who would proclaim it?
Christ's incarnation,
here in our midst, the Word made flesh
unfathomed mystery,
unending glory,
Ancient of Days, yet ever fresh.

4 Who would believe it?
only the childlike,
theirs is the kingdom of heaven above.
As in the stillness
we make Christ welcome
so God unfolds his feast of love.
