It is with deep sadness we share the news that Kieran Metcalfe, our beloved friend and colleague, died on Tuesday 29 July after a two year battle with cancer, leaving behind his wife Susie and sons Ben & Toby.

Kieran first joined the fledgling Resound Worship group as a songwriter in the late noughties, publishing several songs with us, before going freelance in graphic and web design and creating and managing the current Resound and Jubilate websites. In more recent years he brought our agency into the 21st century with a new rights and royalties management system, before creating Songclub, the collaborative songwriting platform hosts our 12 Song Challenge community.

In recent years time, Kieran moved from a freelance role to becoming employed by the Song & Hymn Writers Foundation as our in-house developer, becoming a much-loved member of our staff team.

Whether as a writer, a contractor or a colleague, he has been at the heart of everything we have done for nearly 20 years and we truly couldn't have got this far without his skills, passion, and creative and generous spirit. There was so much more we planned to do together and we mourn the loss of those opportunities, but we are immensely grateful that we were able to walk this part of the journey together and we will continue to build upon the foundations he has laid.

We are a small and close-knit team at the Song & Hymn Writers Foundation and we are grieving the loss of our dear friend. We are also facing the challenges that come without Kieran's calm and confident hand on the tiller and we will take our time as we consider how to shape the future. We would appreciate your prayers and your patience.

Finally: our hearts are broken and our souls, for now, are downcast, but we do not grieve as those without hope. In Kieran's own words:

Death has no power,
O where is its sting?
For I have a greater Saviour.

We love you, Kieran, our beautiful friend.
