He was pierced
1 He was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities.
And to bring us his peace he was punished,
and by his wounds we are healed.
2 The Lord made his life an offering,
for the sins of transgressors he died.
He took our pain and bore our suffering,
by his blood we can be justified.
3 He was despisèd, he was rejected,
a man of suffering and acquainted with pain.
He was despisèd, he was rejected,
and we held him in low esteem.
4 All we like sheep have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid upon him
the iniquity of us all.
He was despisèd...
(optional descant) 'O my Lord, why have you forsaken me?' 'It is finished. Amen.'
