1 When Israel broke their cruel chains
and Egypt lost the day,
the Lord's own people sang for joy
and laughed upon their way.

2 When Israel crossed the river's edge
and reached the promised land,
they felt in their deliverance
the touch of God's good hand.

3 Now we, through Christ who goes before,
stand firm on solid ground;
we sing God's praise, and all the earth
shall tremble at the sound.
