A fervent prayer is rising
A fervent prayer is rising:
Lord, hear the urgent cries
of those whose speech is truthful
yet misconstrued as lies.
You search and find them blameless
in all they do and say,
determined not to waver
but follow, come what may.
Show them, O God, the wonder
of love so vast and strong;
defend them like an eagle
providing for its young,
and let your wings protect them,
secure as storms go by -
each one preserved and precious,
the apple of your eye.
Where justice lies abandoned
and persecution thrives,
where humans act like lions
destroying homes and lives,
come, save your shattered people -
your presence their reward
when, waking from their traumas,
they see your face, O Lord!
