God, my God, for you I'm searching
in this dry, deserted place -
how I long to take refreshment
from the fountains of your grace!
Just as once I glimpsed your beauty,
show me in this present hour
more of your transcendent glory
and your all-surpassing power.

Life itself is not so precious
as your love's unfading worth:
may my lips respond in praises
every day I live on earth.
You will satisfy my hunger
more than any feast could do
as I plead for your provision,
lifting up my hands to you.

When I lie awake, reflecting
in the stillness of the night,
thoughts of you will reassure me,
bringing comfort and delight.
Then, because you are my helper,
my protector, I will sing,
close beside you, safely sheltered
in the shadow of your wing.
