After Psalm 31

My refuge, Lord! To you I run -
no stronger shelter in the storm
or firmer fortress stands.
Come near to guide and rescue me,
from lurking dangers set me free
as now, O God, I bring my life
and place it in your hands.

Let idols not possess my heart,
but all my joy be in the thought
of love so deep, so true:
you saw me helpless in my grief,
and when I called you brought relief
and opened out for me a space
to live and walk with you.

Be merciful, O Lord, when still
your servants suffer pain or guilt
which no-one understands:
while some despise and others sneer
and even friends recoil in fear -
support them as they cling to you,
their future in your hands.

What wondrous faithfulness is yours!
For such an ever-present source
of grace, what praise is due!
O Lord, the One who hears our prayers
and keeps us safe from hidden snares,
help us to wait with confidence
and fix our hope on you!
