Hymns with modernised words
Jubilate has always sought to provide words that are readily understandable for both regular and occasional church members. Therefore where appropriate we feel it is helpful to make some small changes ("invisible mending") to existing texts. This is a well-established practice that has gone on for centuries, and will ensure that many classic texts will remain relevant for future generations in an increasingly "unchurched" culture.
Below are many great hymns updated by Jubilate. Where these versions are used in worship please remember to include them in your CCLI or OneLicense reports. All texts have pdf music scores available to download, either interlined or as separate tune pages.
A mighty fortress (God is our fortress)
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide
All creatures of our God and king
All hail the power of Jesus' name
All my heart this night rejoices
All people that on earth do dwell
Alleluia... hearts to heaven and voices raise
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
And can it be that I should gain
And now, O Father, mindful of the love
Angels from the realms of glory
At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow
Awake, my soul, and with the sun
Be thou my vision (Lord, be my vision)
Behold the eternal king and priest
Behold the great creator makes
Bright the vision that delighted
Brightest and best of the sons of the morning
Christ, from whom all blessings flow
Christ is made the sure foundation
Christ, the Lord, is risen today! Hallelujah!
Christian, do you hear the Lord?
Christian, seek not yet repose
Christians, awake, salute the happy morn
Come, O fount of every blessing
Come, you thankful people, come
Dear Lord and Father of mankind
Deck yourself, my soul, with gladness
Draw near and take the body of the Lord and drink
Eternal Father, strong to save
For all the saints, who from their labours rest
Forth in your name, O Lord, I go
Give to our God immortal praise
Glory to Jesus! risen, conquering Son
God is our fortress (A mighty fortress)
God is working his purpose out, as year succeeds to year
God made me for himself, to serve him here
Great God, what do I see and hear?
Hail, gladdening light, of his pure glory poured
Hark! the voice of love and mercy
Help us to help each other, Lord
How bright these glorious spirits shine
I'll praise my maker while I've breath
Immortal, invisible, God only wise
It came upon the midnight clear
Jerusalem, my happy home, name ever
Jesus came, the heavens adoring
Jesus (Jesu), my Lord, my God, my all, hear me
Jesus shall reign where'er the sun
Jesus, your blood and righteousness
Joy to the world! The Lord has come
Judge eternal, throned in splendour
Just as I am, without one plea
Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
Let all mortal flesh keep silence
Let saints on earth together sing
Lift up your heads, you gates of brass
Light's glittering morning fills the skies
Look, you saints, the sight is glorious
Lord, be my vision, supreme in my heart
Lord, I was blind: I could not see
Lord, you were rich beyond all splendour
Lord, your word shall guide us
Love divine, all loves excelling
May the mind of Christ my Saviour
My God, accept my heart this day
My hope is built on nothing less
O happy day that fixed my choice
O Lord my love, my strength, my tower
O Lord of heaven and earth and sea
O Lord, who came from realms above
O Lord, you gave in love divine
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
Praise him, praise him, everybody praise him
Praise, my soul, the king of heaven
Praise to the Lord, the almighty
Prayer is the soul's supreme desire
Sing, my tongue, the glorious battle
Songs of thankfulness and praise
Stand up, stand up for Jesus! You soldiers
Ten thousand times ten thousand
The church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord
The day you gave us, Lord, is ended
The king of love my shepherd is
The Lord is king! Lift up your voice
The wise may bring their learning
There is a land of pure delight
Thine be the glory (Glory to Jesus)
This joyful Eastertide, away with sin
Through all the changing scenes of life
Through the night of doubt and sorrow
We plough the fields and scatter
We were not there to see you come
Welcome, happy morning - age to age shall say
Where high the heavenly temple stands
